I will admit that my KD is low when I play at work (satellite connection) and especially in leagues as I "Play the Objective" with no reguard for my K/d ratio. But then my friend was in the same games with me and was promoted and her KD and SPM are noticably worse than mine so that kinda throws a small wrench into the theory, but at least it's a theory and I've only heard two theorys yet which might make sense, yours IF her KD and SPM wasn't lower than mine yet she was promotoed. The other theory was someone said that it was most likely because I was a much better player during my 5 test games than her and as a result I was placed into a "tougher" group of people in my sub-group. I also started out rank 37 in my sub-group, where as she started out 198 in her sub-group which is like 2nd from the bottom.
